Job Description

Are you a seasoned Benefits Manager with a passion for designing and administering best-in-class benefits programs? General Shale, the nation's leading masonry materials manufacturer, is seeking a Benefits Manager for our corporate headquarters in Johnson City, TN. We’re looking for an experienced professional to lead our benefits strategy, ensuring our offerings support our employees and align with our company values.

What You’ll Do

As the Benefits Manager, you will oversee the end-to-end administration of employee benefits, ensuring compliance, accuracy, and excellent service delivery. Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead the administration of benefit programs: medical, dental, vision, life, disability, retirement (401k), COBRA, and EAP.
  • Ensure accurate employee benefits enrollment and eligibility within our HRIS (UKG); conduct data audits and maintain data integrity.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with benefit carriers and vendors to ensure quality service and resolve complex issues.
  • Respond to employee and manager inquiries on plan details, eligibility, life events, and claims support.
  • Manage and interpret FMLA, ADA, and leave-related policies with confidence and care.
  • Conduct ACA compliance audits and manage annual open enrollment and renewal processes.
  • Reconcile benefit invoices and oversee allocation and billing accuracy.
  • Partner with the VP of HR to develop a long-term benefits strategy aligned with organizational goals.
  • Maintain compliance with all federal and state benefit regulations and monitor evolving legislation.
  • Provide reporting and insights on benefit utilization and cost trends.
  • Support the implementation of benefit-related projects and process improvements.

What We’re Looking For

  • Minimum 5+ years of dedicated experience managing corporate-level benefits programs.
  • Deep understanding of benefit laws and compliance (COBRA, HIPAA, ACA, FMLA, ERISA, etc.).
  • Proven ability to manage vendor relationships and open enrollment processes.
  • Experience working with HRIS systems and performing benefit-related audits. Previous UKG experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills, with a proactive and detail-oriented mindset.
