About the Role
MGM Reporting, a division of MGM Trial Services, is seeking an individual who can perform the dual role of a digital court reporter and scopist / legal transcript editor. This hybrid role is ideal for someone with an exceptional command of grammar, punctuation, and professional communication, who is eager to learn the technical and professional responsibilities of conducting depositions and ensuring the integrity of the legal record.
While your day-to-day work will center on editing and finalizing deposition transcripts captured through automatic speech recognition (ASR), you will cross-train as a digital court reporter, administering oaths, handling exhibits, and overseeing the clarity and accuracy of the official record through the operation of industry-standard A/V equipment and ASR software.
What You’ll Do
Proofread legal transcripts for grammar, punctuation, spelling, and consistency
Listen to the proceeding's audio to ensure verbatim accuracy
Verify spellings for proper names and other technical details
Exercise critical judgment in resolving ambiguities
Ensure transcripts meet legal formatting requirements and company standards
Participate in remote and in-person depositions, administering oaths and ensuring clear, organized record capture
Operate A/V and AI transcription software during proceedings
Maintain professional, client-facing conduct in all interactions
Adhere to project deadlines while maintaining meticulous accuracy
What We’re Looking For
Mastery of English grammar and mechanics
Strong listening, comprehension, and research skills
Professional, affable demeanor for client-facing work
Detail-oriented, reliable, and able to meet deadlines
Comfort with new technology, readiness to learn A/V systems and ASR software
Ability to lift and transport equipment (approx. 30–50 lbs)
Required:
Eligibility to become a Maryland Notary
Preferred:
1+ years of legal transcription, scoping, court reporting, or related experience
2- or 4-year degree
Strong background in professional writing
