Engineering Manager – Underground Cable Installation Equipment Design

Location: Mankato, MN

Department: Engineering

Reports to: Director of Engineering and Operations

Position Type: Full-Time, Primarily On-Site (Hybrid Eligible)

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced?engineering leader eager to grow their impact and take the next step in their career as Engineering Manager . This position will lead the design and development of equipment for underground cable installation. This role requires a strategic thinker with a strong mechanical engineering background and a proven track record in leading cross-functional project teams through the full product development lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead and mentor a team of engineers in the design and development of innovative underground cable installation equipment.
• Drive New Product Development (NPD) initiatives from concept through production, ensuring alignment with customer needs and business goals.
• Oversee design reviews, risk assessments, and validation activities to ensure robust and manufacturable solutions.
• Implement and maintain ISO-compliant engineering processes and documentation.
• Champion Design for Manufacturability (DFM) principles to optimize product cost, quality, and performance.
• Foster a culture of Continuous Improvement across engineering practices and product lines.
• Collaborate closely with manufacturing, supply chain, marketing, and field service teams to ensure seamless product launches and support.
• Manage project timelines, budgets, and resource allocation to meet business objectives.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field (Master's preferred).
• Minimum 5 years of engineering experience, with at least 2 years experience in leading teams or in a management role.
• Demonstrated success in leading cross-functional teams and delivering complex engineering projects.
• Hands-on experience with New Product Development and ISO quality systems.
• Strong knowledge of Design for Manufacturability and Continuous Improvement methodologies (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma).
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence across all levels of the organization.
• Self-starter with a high degree of initiative, independence, and motivation.
• Strategic thinker with a passion for innovation and operational excellence.
