About the Role:

As a Fine Art Packer at Cadogan Tate in Chicago, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and secure packaging of valuable and delicate artworks for transportation and storage. Your expertise will directly contribute to the preservation and protection of fine art pieces, minimizing the risk of damage during handling and transit. This position requires meticulous attention to detail and a thorough understanding of various packing materials and techniques tailored specifically for fine art objects. You will collaborate closely with art handlers, logistics teams, and clients to meet exacting standards and deadlines. Ultimately, your work will support the seamless movement and safeguarding of priceless cultural assets within the transportation and warehousing industry.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience in packing, preferably with fine art, antiques, or fragile items.
• Basic knowledge of packing materials and techniques used in art handling.
• Ability to follow detailed instructions and work carefully with delicate objects.
• Physical ability to lift and maneuver heavy or bulky items safely.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Previous experience working in fine art logistics, transportation, or warehousing.
• Familiarity with custom crate construction and woodworking skills.
• Certification or training in art handling or packing techniques.
• Strong organizational skills and experience with inventory management systems.
• Knowledge of health and safety standards specific to art packing and transportation.

Responsibilities:

• Assess and prepare fine art pieces for packing, considering the unique requirements of each item.
• Select and utilize appropriate packing materials such as acid-free papers, foam, bubble wrap, crates, and custom supports to ensure maximum protection.
• Construct and assemble custom crates and packaging solutions tailored to the dimensions and fragility of artworks.
• Coordinate with art handlers and logistics personnel to schedule packing and shipping activities efficiently.
• Maintain accurate documentation of packed items, including condition reports and packing lists.
• Inspect packing materials and equipment regularly to ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.
• Adhere strictly to health and safety regulations and company policies during all packing operations.
