Purpose

Interns will:

  • Gain a deeper understanding of how to apply the concepts of sustainability, specifically in terms of minimizing waste.
  • Strengthen leadership skills and gain confidence working with researchers and staff members.
  • Practice clear and concise communication through writing emails, meeting with peers and university staff and faculty, public speaking, and creating promotional materials.
  • Enhance project management and organizational skills.
  • Exercise critical thinking and data analysis to help improve Green Labs and Environmental Health and Safety programs.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with managing the Green Labs specialty recycling program (Styrofoam, cold packs, plastic film, and alkaline batteries) including record keeping and data analysis
  • Facilitate the exchange of lab supplies between research labs and maintain the Green Labs surplus supply inventory including transporting lab materials across campus
  • Assist with other Green Labs programs, including energy conservation programs, as needed
  • Assist with other EHS programs, including taking photos for EHS reports, tabling at outreach events, and data entry as needed
  • Create Green Labs promotional/outreach materials
Required Qualifications
  • A valid Texas driver's license
  • Must have been enrolled in classes at UT during the Fall 2025 semester
  • Enthusiasm for sustainability
  • Comfortability with working on multiple projects at once
  • Articulate and willing to communicate via multiple outlets and work closely with researchers and other university personnel
  • Excellent writing skills, attention to detail, and great professionalism
  • Demonstrated ability to carry out a complex project from start to finish independently
Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

  • Experience working in a research lab

Salary

$16/hr

Work Shift

10 hours/week; Monday - Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm
