Role and Responsibilities: Under the minimum supervision of the Operations Audit Supervisor/Manager, the Internal Auditor conducts operational, compliance, and financial audits in various areas of the company. This includes identifying and assessing risks associated with the department and/or functions under audit; developing effective audit programs to address the risks identified and executing appropriate tests of controls; preparing audit reports; presenting observations and recommendations for Management's review; and staying abreast of new and/or emerging laws, rules, and regulations related to the life and health insurance industry.
Your responsibilities will include :
- Performs operational, compliance, and financial audits in various areas/departments in the Company to include determining scope of the audit, areas of concentration, identification of risks and controls, and designs the audit program.
- Prepares clear and concise audit programs, work papers, and audit observations/recommendations for all internal audits.
- Prepares written audit reports for distribution to management and the Audit Committee of the Board of Directors and meets with various levels of company management to discuss audit observations and recommendations.
- Conducts reviews and test work related to the Model Audit Rule (MAR).
- Provides assistance to the external auditors in their year-end financial statement review by performing tests of internal controls over various areas/departments in the Company.
- Follows-up with appropriate area management to ensure that all audit report observations/ issues are resolved in a timely manner.
- Conducts and documents audit work in a professional manner in accordance with department standards and the Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing.
Qualifications: - Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Business related field
- Attainment of the CIA (Certified Internal Auditor) or CPA (Certified Public Accountant) Designation
- Minimum of 3 years prior audit/accounting/compliance experience
- Working toward other audit/accounting designations (CIA, CPA, CFE, CISA, etc.)
- Working knowledge of accounting/auditing principles and techniques
- Proficient knowledge of company policies and procedures preferred
- Proficiency using current PC software (ex: Word, Excel)
- Strong analytical skills and critical thinking abilities
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- The ability to function effectively in the workplace as exhibited through one's integrity, courage to act and communication skills
- The ability to work with others effectively as exhibited through one's respect for people and commitment to teamwork
