The Interpreter is responsible for providing foreign language interpretation and translation to AC patients and families. The employee must be able to demonstrate language proficiency and provide interpretation in an accurate, warm and caring manner, function independently, work under stressful situations, and work well with others. Responsibilities include providing timely and accurate interpretation and translation, interpreting information without bias, translating patient-specific materials and educational pamphlets, educating staff on cultural issues, confirming language requests are completed, knowledge of accessing other language and hearing impaired assistance, reporting patient concerns, following up on concerns, educating staff on interpreter utilization, communicating with other interpreters for scheduling, assisting with three-way interpreting and written translation requests, logging daily patient services, making rounds to offer assistance, and performing other duties as assigned. Required education is a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. Entry level, experience not required but recommended is 1 year in healthcare or medical interpreting. Required certification is Interpreter Skills Assessment - Arkansas Children's. Recommended certifications include Certified Medical Interpreter (CMI) from CCHI or NBCMI.
