Southern Arkansas University is searching for an Academic Advisor for the Rankin College of Business. This position reports to the Office of Academic Success and Degree Completion within the Academic Division.
Duties: assist students in developing a plan of study leading to a degree; monitor progress of students and provide timely interventions for those at academic risk; support registration and retention-related initiatives; keep students current on academic policies and procedures; offer guidance in students’ interactions with University offices; maintain records on students; initiate and process advising and graduation forms; process transfer credit; work with students on academic probation; provide guidance to students regarding admission to the College of Business; participate in student orientations; facilitate training of new faculty advisors and keep current faculty informed of updates to advising policies and procedures; work closely with colleges, departments and faculty advisors to maintain consistency in advising and other duties assigned.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred; demonstration of superior interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal; ability to support a wide-ranging student population with unique academic and personal needs; familiarity with the structure, functions, and policies of higher education institutions; proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook); preference given to candidates holding a degree in a field related to business and/or those having experience advising students.
