Job Summary

Position responsible for radiation safety for outpatient and inpatient imaging under direction of a Physicist.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Graduate of an accredited school of Radiological Technology; Bachelor's degree in healthcare-related degree preferred.

Licenses/Certifications: Registered Radiological Technologist by the American Registry of Radiological Technologist and Licensed by the Texas Department of Health; Strongly prefer National Registry of Radiation Protection Technologists (NRRPT) certification.

Experience / Knowledge / Skills:

  • Five (5) to 10 years of experience in Radiology working in a technologist role.

  • Two (2) years of experience working with Radiation Safety preferred; ability to work under direction of Physicist.

  • Excellent written, interpersonal, and presentation skills

  • Ability to work collaboratively with Healthcare professionals at all levels to achieve established goals and improve quality outcomes.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Perform monthly nuclear medicine audits and tracks results.

  • Review radiation monitoring reports. Investigate unusual exposures.

  • Maintains radiation monitoring device rosters for the assigned hospitals and clinics.

  • Serves as Radiation Safety Officer for registrations as assigned.

  • Gathers information and performs ACR annual evaluations of nuclear medicine cameras and PET/CT units for licenses as assigned.

  • Prepares sites for state inspections (pre-inspections) and assists during the inspections. (Radiology, nuclear medicine, mammography, radiation therapy).

  • Updates system lists for registrations, licenses, etc.

  • Prepares state required annual report for all personnel who receive an occupational dose greater than 100 mrem.

  • Assists in in-service training of nursing personnel and other medical staff.

  • Prepares power point presentations for RSO as required.

  • Performs sealed source inventories and wipe test reports.

  • Tests ancillary nuclear medicine equipment for accuracy, constancy and statistical variability.

  • Attends radiation safety committee meetings and other meetings as required.

  • Coordinates regulatory inspections and monitors results.

  • Assists RSO with state correspondences to include new registration on licenses, amendments to licenses, inspection corrective action, etc.

  • Assists RSO in investigating unusual occurrences that involved unnecessary radiation exposure.

  • Ensures safe care to patients, staff and visitors; adheres to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications including time management, supply management, productivity and quality of service.

  • Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency; supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization; serves as preceptor, mentor and resource to less experienced staff.
