Bachelor's or Master's degree in Social Work, active Social Worker license and minimum 1+ years School Social Work experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.

Reports To: Director of Special Education / School Principal
The School Social Worker is a vital member of the student support team, dedicated to promoting the social, emotional, and academic success of all students. Working on-site and directly with a K12 caseload of approximately 4045 students , the social worker provides individual and group interventions, conducts evaluations, participates in IEP meetings, and collaborates with families, staff, and community partners to ensure comprehensive support for students well-being.
This role requires a compassionate, organized, and skilled professional who is PED Certified and holds a valid New Mexico Social Work License .
Key ResponsibilitiesDirect Student Support & Interventions
Provide individual and group counseling services to students addressing social, emotional, behavioral, and academic challenges.
Implement evidence-based interventions to promote positive behavior, emotional regulation, and social skills.
Support crisis intervention and provide immediate response and follow-up for students in distress.
Help students develop coping strategies, self-advocacy skills, and healthy relationships within the school environment.
Assessment, Evaluation & Case Management
Conduct comprehensive social work evaluations as part of the special education process.
Participate actively in Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings, providing input on student progress, social-emotional needs, and behavioral supports.
Develop and monitor social-emotional goals within IEPs and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure appropriate services.
Maintain accurate and timely documentation of all student interactions, interventions, and reports in compliance with district and state standards.
Collaboration & Consultation
Partner with teachers, administrators, counselors, and school psychologists to design and implement student support plans.
Serve as a liaison between school, family, and community agencies to coordinate wraparound services.
Provide consultation and professional guidance to staff on issues related to student mental health, trauma, and behavior management.
Engage families in the educational process through communication, support meetings, and resource connection.
Prevention & Program Development
Contribute to school-wide initiatives promoting positive school climate, attendance improvement, and student engagement.
Assist in developing and implementing programs for bullying prevention, conflict resolution, and mental wellness awareness.
Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to address systemic barriers to learning and recommend strategies for improvement.
Required:
Current New Mexico PED (Public Education Department) Certification as a School Social Worker.
Active New Mexico Social Work License (LMSW, LCSW, or LISW).
Masters Degree in Social Work from an accredited program.
Demonstrated experience working with K12 students, preferably in a school or educational setting.
Strong understanding of IEP processes, special education regulations, and student support services.
Preferred:
Experience with behavioral intervention planning and trauma-informed practices.
Bilingual (English/Spanish) proficiency.
Familiarity with community mental health resources and family outreach strategies in New Mexico.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with students, families, and staff.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain detailed records.
Empathy, cultural awareness, and sensitivity to diverse student populations.
Knowledge of behavioral health principles, child development, and crisis response.
Strong organizational, problem-solving, and collaboration skills.
Full-Time: 35 hours per week, MondayFriday, on-site at the assigned school(s).
Contract Dates: November 2025 May 2026.
Position involves working across K12 grade levels, supporting approximately 4045 students on caseload.
Collaborative team environment with other support professionals, educators, and administrators.
This position is based within a school environment and requires mobility between multiple buildings or grade levels. The role involves frequent interaction with students, parents, and staff, as well as participation in school events and wellness initiatives.
