This position is located in San Xavier, AZ.

Position Summary:

Under general supervision, coordinates Hewel Ni'ok's O'odham Youth Media webcast and is responsible for managing and creating a wide range of radio productions; creating and editing digital multimedia content; and recruiting, organizing, and training volunteer producers and digital content creators. The Webcast Coordinator is also responsible for keeping Hewel Ni'ok in compliance with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act of 1998 and the standards set by the Hewel Ni'ok General Manager.

The major work activities are generally undefined except in terms of achieving overall organization/department goals. Specific policies, procedures and guidelines are virtually nonexistent except for executive directives and accepted professional standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Under the supervision of the General Manager or General Manager's designate, responsible for the coordination and development of assigned webcast programming.
  • Produce local radio content and support Hewel Ni'ok production.
  • Organize and lead training for volunteers in audio editing and other production skills.
  • Engineer live music performances when needed, including setup and operation of soundboard.
  • Operate remote broadcasts and train other volunteers to execute successful remote broadcasts of shows and special events.
  • Assist Hewel Ni'ok hosts in the creation of their content, both program content and promotional content.
  • Coordinate production and quality assurance of all pre-produced on-air elements; Provide support to projects that increase engagement with Hewel Ni'ok listening audience.
  • Provide production and other support to Hewel Ni'ok events.
  • Coordinate digital content.
  • Act as chief editor for Hewel Ni'ok web media distribution.
  • Recruit and train volunteers to actively use Hewel Ni'ok media creation tools.
  • Organize and manage volunteer content creators.
  • Assist in expanding Hewel Ni'ok online presence and reach.
  • Use online metrics and conduct impact assessments to inform Hewel Ni'ok digital strategy.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned and contributes to a team.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the Tohono O'odham culture, customs, and traditions.
  • Knowledge in radio programming and production.
  • Knowledge of business writing, spelling, grammar and punctuation.
  • Knowledge of various broadcast studio equipment, radio automation systems and database software programs.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state, tribal laws, regulations and requirements.
  • Skill in providing superior customer service to external and internal customers.
  • Skill in exceptional interpersonal and communication.
  • Skill in operating a computer and use of standard software applications.
  • Ability to work extended hours and various work schedules to include holidays.
  • Ability to plan, assign, and review the work of assigned volunteers.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to work with and motivate team members.
  • Ability to communicate efficiently and effectively both verbally and in writing.

  • Ability to travel within the interior/exterior boundaries of the Tohono O'odham Nation.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma, and a minimum of two years' experience in media; prior experience managing volunteers; ability to create and edit web content in a content management system or an equivalent combination of training, education, and work experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of this position.

Licenses, Certifications, Special Requirements:

  • Upon recommendation for hire, a criminal background check is required to determine suitability for hire, including a 39-month Motor Vehicle Record.
  • May require possessing and maintaining a valid driver's license, (no DUIs or major traffic citations within the last three years).
  • If required, must meet the Tohono O'odham Nation tribal employer's insurance requirements to receive a driver's permit to operate program vehicles.
  • Based on the department's needs, incumbents may be required to demonstrate fluency in both the Tohono O'odham Language and English as a condition of employment.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, and sit. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and to stop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Generally work indoors and outdoors in all types or weather.
