ABOUT THE POSITION

Welder Trainees will be immersed in their assigned departments, where they will learn the foundational work necessary to become a Welder I and continue to develop and excel at Astec. This role sets qualified candidates up for a pathway to a long-term welding career at Astec, with the ability for the candidate to perfect their craft over several years and move from a Welder I to Welder II and III positions in the future.

The Welder Trainee will assist in all aspects of fabrication and will move throughout departments as needed. The Welder Trainee will assist in the preparation and finishing of surfaces and many other tasks as assigned. The trainee will be actively working in a production team and will learn welding techniques through hands-on training and classroom learning.

Deliverables & Responsibilities

• Clean and prepare production areas.
\n
• Material Handling (loading/unloading metal parts, moving heavy materials)
\n
• Metal Preparation (cleaning, grinding, cutting, etc)
\n
• Assist other workers on-site with various jobs.
\n
• Follow instructions from supervisors to perform manual labor tasks.
\n
• Comply with all safety protocols to ensure the safety of employees.
\n
• Other job functions as assigned by supervisor.
\n

To be successful in this role, your experience and competencies are:

• Motivated with the drive and determination to succeed.
\n
• Welding exposure/training and/or experience necessary.
\n
• Basic tool use (hand tools, grinders, saws, clamps, tape measures)
\n
• Proper use of PPE.
\n
• Teamwork and communication.
\n
• Must be able to perform the required duties of lifting, pushing, and/or pulling weights up to but not exceeding 50 pounds.
\n
• Position will require frequent bending, stooping, and crawling.
\n

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Manufacturing Environment

Shop manufacturing environment exposures include exposure to moving mechanical parts, machinery, tools and equipment, vibration, fumes or airborne particles, motorized vehicles, welding and machining operations, outside weather conditions and exposure to the risk of electric shock. The employee may occasionally be exposed to varying levels of dirt, dust, toxic or caustic chemicals, very warm and/or very chilly temperatures. The noise level in the shop can be very loud at times consistent with an industrial assembly facility and may require hearing protection. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
