In a bid to empower women across Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, the First Lady of Nigeria, announced that 37,000 women would receive a ₦50,000 recapitalization grant under the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI).
Speaking during a symbolic presentation of food items in Makurdi on Thursday, the First Lady, represented by the wife of the Vice President, Mrs. Nana Shettima, detailed the RHI’s plans to provide economic support to vulnerable women, persons with disabilities, and internally displaced persons (IDPs) across the country.
She explained that the initiative would provide 1,000 women from each of the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) with the grant as part of the RHI’s economic empowerment programme.
The programme, set to launch nationwide on August 22, aims to enhance the livelihoods of petty traders and support the underprivileged, aligning with President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to ensuring food security and inclusivity.
In his address, Governor Hyacinth Alia, represented by his deputy Sam Ode, expressed gratitude for the First Lady’s support and promised to augment the distribution efforts in Benue State.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Women Affairs, Mrs. Scholastica Sor, also highlighted the significant assistance the state has received from the RHI and anticipated further support, including an agriculture programme benefiting over 200 women.
