The Benue State Government has reaffirmed its resolve to strengthen the visibility of locally produced goods, with a renewed focus on agriculture as a driver of economic growth and food security.

This position was reiterated in Makurdi when officials of the National Brand Development and Made in Nigeria Special Project, Benue chapter, paid a courtesy visit to the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security.

The delegation, led by the state coordinator, Hon. Ikon Oraduen, engaged ministry officials on possible areas of collaboration.

Speaking during the meeting, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Dr. Benjamin Ashaver, stressed the importance of strategic partnerships in unlocking the state’s agricultural potential.

He noted that promoting products originating from Benue would not only enhance the state’s image but also open up broader market opportunities.

Ashaver expressed optimism that closer cooperation with the initiative would accelerate efforts to position Benue as a key player in food production, both within Nigeria and beyond.

He pointed out that plans to introduce a distinct Benue rice brand would contribute meaningfully to addressing food challenges while elevating the state’s profile in the sector.

He further assured that the ministry would work in synergy with relevant agencies, including BNAGRO, to ensure that the objectives of the programme align with the broader development agenda of the state government.

The commissioner also highlighted the administration’s commitment to attracting investment into agriculture, adding that improved promotion of farm produce and livestock would create economic opportunities for residents.

Earlier, Oraduen explained that the visit was aimed at establishing a working relationship with the ministry and seeking the technical backing required to implement the project effectively. According to him, the initiative is designed to identify, develop and promote goods and services produced within the state, with particular attention on agricultural outputs.

He added that increased visibility for Benue products would encourage patronage and stimulate both direct and indirect investments, ultimately improving productivity and livelihoods across the state.

Senior officials of the ministry, including the Permanent Secretary, Pharm. Elijah Ogaagbenu, as well as directors from key departments, were present at the meeting.
