King Charles III has called upon world leaders gathered in Dubai to ensure that COP28 becomes a pivotal moment.
The monarch expressed concern, stating that despite some progress, “we remain dreadfully far off track.”
He emphasized the need for “genuine transformational action,” a day after the meeting opened with stark warnings on global warming.
Meanwhile, UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres declared that world leaders “cannot save a burning planet with a fire hose of fossil fuels.”
UAE President, Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan announced a $30 billion (£23.7 billion) fund for “global climate solutions.”
This development comes after an unexpected early agreement on Thursday, where countries pledged $420 million to a fund aimed at assisting nations affected by the impacts of climate change.
Although greenhouse gas emissions, responsible for the Earth’s rising temperatures, continue to increase, scientists emphasize the urgency of nearly halving them within the next seven years.
