‘Escalating Insecurity Driving Farmers Away From Farms in Northern Nigeria’ -Sambo

Former Vice President Namadi Sambo has expressed concern over the escalating insecurity in Northern Nigeria, stating that it’s driving farmers away from their farms and affecting the education and health of numerous families.

Sambo also endorsed the League of Northern Democrats, a platform aimed at addressing the region’s challenges.

In his words: “It is very worrisome to note how insecurity has crippled agriculture while threatening the education and health of our children and women. This has continued to widen the net of poverty and inequality among the people of the North and indeed the entire country.

“Irrespective of our political affiliations, we must continue to leverage our respective experiences and resources to play our part in meeting the aspirations of our people while fostering sustainable peace and socio-economic development.”

The League’s convener, Umar Ardo, emphasized that the group is non-partisan and focused on tackling regional challenges like insecurity, poverty, and illiteracy.

Lieutenant General Abdulrahman Dambazau, a former Chief of Army Staff, also expressed support for the League, citing the need for urgent action to address the North’s deteriorating conditions.

The League plans to hold a historic summit in Kaduna in October, with Vice President Kashim Shettima expected to attend.
