Abia Govt Set to Revive Moribund Ogwe Golden Poultry Farm

The Governor of Abia State,  Alex Otti of Abia, has disclosed that his administration is taking steps to revive the moribund Ogwe Golden Chicken Poultry farm in Uwka West LGA, to boost the state’s economic development.

The Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Ukoha Njoku, said this in a statement made available to newsmen in Umuahia on Tuesday.

According to the statement, the Governor made the disclosure when he received a delegation of an Israeli- Agro business Investment Company, AgroTop Israel in his office.

The delegation was led by the Isreali Business Development Manager, Mr Ofer Zuntz, accompanied by their development partners Aba-based Max Agro Farm. 

 He promised to deepen discussions with the group for a concession of the farm for improved productivity.

Otti said poultry farming was part of the state’s strategy to improve the livelihood of the residents, therefore  the company would be given the concession if the government was satisfied with findings on its business performance.

“It will be interesting to partner in various agriculture value chains with the Israeli company which has an established presence in over 50 countries around the world,” he said.

The governor thanked AgroTop Israel and their partners for bringing the business proposal to the state.

Earlier, Zuntz said they were interested in partnering Abia in the area of agriculture, particularly in livestock and piggery.

He said that they have a business establishment in over 50 different countries and five continents of the world.

Zuntz commended the governor for his open-door policy and business mindedness.

 Earlier, the Founding Director of Max Agro Farms, Mr Ejike Nwankwo, said their farm had a relationship with the Israeli company for agricultural solutions.

 He said that the primary focus was on poultry production.

 He added that the visit was to present his company for a mutually beneficial investment with the Israeli company and the state.

The Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr Cliff Agbaeze, Chief Strategy Officer to the Government, Mr Chinenye Mba-Uzoukwu, and the Director-General, Public-Private Partnership and Investment Promotion Office, Mr Chinedu Chijioke aside other government functionaries were present at the meeting.
