Hon. Amaobi Ogah, the Representative of Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal constituency, has encouraged his constituents to embrace agriculture as a means of ensuring food security.
Ogah reaffirmed his commitment to prioritizing the welfare of his constituents, pledging to support their success in various fields.
During a media interaction with the Abia Online Media Publishers Organization at his country home in Onuaku Uturu, Ogah revealed that he has been working on grading rural roads in the constituency to facilitate farmers’ access to their farmlands.
This infrastructure development, he explained, aims to enhance the productivity and livelihoods of farmers in the area.
Hon. Amaobi Ogah highlighted his efforts to support farmers in his constituency, noting that 200 farmers have received 40 palm seedlings each to promote farming activities. Additionally, he has initiated the construction of a modern market in Ukwunwagwu, Uturu, which is expected to become one of the largest food markets in the state.
Ogah expressed his commitment to serving his constituents, stating, “We are dedicated to serving our people, as we have been blessed with abundant resources. During my time in the House of Representatives, I have made it a priority to work tirelessly for the benefit of our people.”
“We know that most of our people are farmers, that’s why we are opening up rural roads in our constituency.
“Given the cost of things in the market, a bag of rice may go higher in price by next year, so even if the salary of workers is raised to N250,000, it will not be enough for the workers to survive. That is why we are encouraging everyone to go back to agriculture.”
“For our youths we are already sponsoring 66 of them on scholarship at the Federal College of Agriculture in Isiagu and 22 students are also benefiting from our scholarship in the School of Health Science Management, Aba. We also registered many constituents for UTME and WASSCE.
“For the other youths who are into the transport business, we will give them 100 motorcycles between now and December this year. Our plea to them is to use the machines for business and not to sell them.”
On his constitutional role as a lawmaker, he said, “I moved motions that attracted ecological funds to Isuikwuato to help us check the erosion menace in our constituency.
“We have been supporting agriculture in different areas. We have asked our people to form cooperatives. When Isuikwuato started their program, I supported them with the sum of N5 million naira.”
Earlier in his remark, the chairman of OMPAN in Abia State, Chief Promise Uzoroma Okoro, congratulated the lawmaker on his election and subsequent victory at the Court of Appeal, which perfected the mandate given to him by his constituents.
He said OMPAN as an independent organization that engages in news gathering and reportage in the state seeks to help private individuals, politicians and corporate organizations tell their story to the world.
Okoro pointed out that the organization is neither an appendage of the government in power, nor attack dogs for opposition politicians.
He said, “All we do is help people tell their stories to the world. We try to build a synergy that will promote both our organization and members of the public.
“We know that people like you who occupy public office need to let their constituents know the laws they are making and the projects they are attracting to their people.”
