Abubakar Kyari Appointed Agriculture Minister

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday appointed Senator Abubakar Kyari as the new Minister of Agriculture and Food Security after the National Assembly confirmed his nomination.

Kyari, a former senator representing Borno North Senatorial District, was previously the acting national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC). He was appointed to the position in July 2023 following the resignation of Abdullahi Adamu.

Kyari has a long and distinguished career in politics. He was first elected to the House of Representatives in 1998 and served until 2003. He was then appointed commissioner for water resources in Borno State, a position he held until 2005. In 2007, he was appointed managing director of the Rural Water Supply Agency in Borno State.

Kyari returned to the House of Representatives in 2011 and served until 2015. He was then elected senator for Borno North Senatorial District in 2015 and re-elected in 2019.

Kyari is a recipient of the Nigerian national honor of Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON). He is also a member of the Board of Trustees of the Nigerian Institute of Management.

Also, President Tinubu has appointed Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi to serve as Minister of State of Agriculture and Food Security.
