ACCI Advocates Technology-Driven Agricultural Practices to Drive Economic Growth

by AgroNigeria

The President of the Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI), Emeka Obegolu, has called on Nigerians to adopt mechanised and technology-driven farming systems to boost national food security and drive economic growth.

Obegbolu made this call on Tuesday, in Abuja, where he stressed that modern agricultural tools and digital innovation are essential to transform the sector and unlock its full productivity potential.

He explained that the future of farming in Nigeria lies in mechanisation and digital agriculture, describing technology as the “new tractor” capable of driving efficiency, large-scale production, and competitiveness across the value chain.

He added that adopting modern farming tools would not only boost yields but also help reduce labour challenges and cushion the impact of limited arable land and insecurity.

His message was delivered on his behalf by the ACCI Vice President for Agriculture, Mr. Olasetemi Bode Thompson, during the inauguration of the second Farm, Food and Allied Technology (FARMFATECH) Expo in Abuja. Obegolu noted that the expo serves as a key platform for stakeholders, from farmers and investors to policymakers and innovators, to collaborate and explore emerging opportunities in agribusiness.

“This event reflects our commitment to transforming the agricultural sector through technology, innovation, and partnerships,” he stated, adding that the initiative aligns with Nigeria’s broader agenda to enhance food security and strengthen the economy through modernized agricultural systems.

In a related remark, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, Marcus Olaniyi, represented by Abubakar Musa, Director at the Federal Food and Drug Authority, highlighted the importance of stakeholder dialogue in shaping the future of food production in Nigeria.

He reaffirmed the government’s dedication to advancing agriculture through innovation and said the Ministry continues to implement the National Agricultural Technology and Innovation Policy (NATIP) to guide modernization efforts.

According to him, prioritizing technology-driven agriculture remains central to achieving food sufficiency, improving nutrition, and building sustainable economic growth
