by AgroNigeria

Ajayi Crowther University (ACU) is set to host the 9th National Conference, bringing together experts, policymakers, and stakeholders to tackle food waste, drive sustainable food systems, and advance the fight against hunger in Nigeria.

Speaking at a meeting with the conference organizing committee, Deputy Vice-Chancellor Prof. Muyiwa Popoola, representing Vice-Chancellor Prof. Timothy Adebayo, confirmed that the university is partnering with the Sustainable Livelihoods and Development Network for Africa to organize the event.

The conference will take place from April 7 to 11, 2025, at the Folorunso and Modupe Alakija Law Auditorium, with a keynote address by Prof. John Derera of the International Institute for Tropical Agriculture, Ibadan.

Prof. Adebayo emphasized the significance of the conference, stating that it aligns with ACU’s vision of becoming a leader in agricultural research and education.

“This conference is not just about discussions; it is about solutions. We are focusing on practical strategies that integrate science, technology, and sustainable farming practices to ensure food security. With challenges like climate change, population growth, and resource management, we must explore innovative ways to guarantee safe, nutritious, and sufficient food for all,” he stated.

The conference will cover critical areas, including food waste management, sustainable agriculture, community-driven solutions, and emerging technologies in food production.

Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, Dr. Moses Adebayo, praised the Vice-Chancellor for his commitment to making the conference a success, adding that ACU’s Seed Company—established under his leadership—is already working with farmers and agricultural experts to enhance food production.

“This conference will serve as a bridge between research and real-world agricultural solutions. It is a platform where experts, policymakers, and farmers will collaborate on strategies to reduce food waste, boost sustainable production, and address hunger, not just in Nigeria but on a global scale,” he said.
