The Adamawa State Government has inaugurated a series of upgraded livestock and grain markets across the state as part of its drive to strengthen the agricultural value chain, promote food security, and attract private sector investment into agribusiness.
Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, represented by his deputy, Professor Kaletapwa Farauta, made the announcement on Thursday during the official commissioning of the newly upgraded livestock and grain market in Ngurore, Yola South Local Government Area.
He disclosed that the intervention, which covers five cattle markets and seven grain markets across the state’s 21 local government areas, was executed under the Adamawa Agribusiness Support Programme (ADAS-P) a public-private partnership aimed at modernising agriculture and enhancing productivity.
Governor Fintiri explained that the upgraded markets received critical infrastructure improvements, including drainage systems, enhanced security, and structural upgrades, all designed to create a more conducive business environment for farmers and traders.
To ensure long-term maintenance and operational efficiency, the governor announced the establishment of a State Market Management Company that will work in collaboration with local governments and market stakeholders.
“The company will support the growth of businesses, stimulate the local economy, and bring prosperity to our people,” he stated.
He urged beneficiaries and host communities to take ownership of the facilities, ensure their proper use, and protect them from deterioration.
Speaking further, the governor noted that ADAS-P was designed to increase farmer incomes, create jobs, and improve access to markets while guaranteeing food sufficiency and strengthening Adamawa’s export potential.
Also speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Livestock Development, Tijjani Maksha, and the Commissioner for Agriculture, David Jatau, encouraged users to manage the markets responsibly to ensure their long-term benefits.
Chairman of the Livestock Sellers Association, Gidado Walga, commended the Fintiri-led administration for the transformative initiative and pledged continued support from market stakeholders.
He also called on citizens to support the current government to enable it to deliver more developmental projects across the state.
