AFAN Leadership Crisis Deepens as GAF Distances Self From Mudi

by AgroNigeria

At its 2025 meeting, the General Assembly of Farmers affirmed its authority as the supreme organ of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria and announced a series of far reaching resolutions aimed at restoring order, credibility and unity within the organisation.

Central to the decisions was a formal rejection of the continued activities of Faruk Rabiu Mudi and Haladu Yunusa, whom the assembly said no longer have any standing within AFAN.

The gathering accused the duo of falsely presenting themselves as leaders of the association and allegedly using its name and financial platforms to collect money from farmers despite having been expelled.

To protect farmers and external partners, the assembly approved the release of a public warning advising individuals, institutions and government agencies to avoid any engagement with Mudi and Yunusa. It stressed that neither the association nor its Board of Trustees has any link with their actions.

In a bid to reinforce institutional supervision, the assembly endorsed the immediate appointment of Abdullahi Adamu, Kabir Ibrahim, Bilas Iwu, Ademola Okeya and Bassey Sampson Inwang into the AFAN Board of Trustees.

According to the assembly, the new trustees are expected to help stabilise the organisation and rebuild trust.

The meeting also restated its commitment to the original AFAN constitution, particularly the rule that limits the tenure of all elected officers to three years, with a maximum of two terms.

Delegates said strict compliance with this provision is essential to ending leadership disputes and internal divisions.

As part of efforts to reduce internal conflict, the assembly resolved that any member who drags AFAN or its officers to court without first using internal dispute resolution channels will automatically lose membership.

The provision, the assembly said, is designed to discourage unnecessary litigation and promote cohesion.

Another key resolution was the directive that national executive committee elections be organised without delay. Observers believe this step is crucial to resetting the association’s leadership structure and restoring confidence among farmers across the country.

Attention was also given to financial discipline and membership records.

The assembly approved measures requiring members to regularise their status through payment of annual dues and completion of identity card registration, with the aim of cleaning up the membership database and improving administration.

The resolutions were endorsed by Barrister Ademola Okeya in his capacity as chairman of the General Assembly committee and validated by Vice Admiral Multala Nyako and former Senate President Abdullahi Adamu.
