Senator Abubakar Kyari, the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security has flagged-off a pilot wheat season safety project focused on youth empowerment in Plateau State.
Kyari praised President Bola Tinubu for his decision to declare a state of emergency on agriculture across Nigeria.
The event, which took place in Mangun, Mangu Local Government Area, marked the start of a wet season agricultural training program involving over 5,000 youths from all 325 wards in the state.
This initiative is designed to equip young people with essential agricultural skills, enhance food security, and drive economic growth within the state. Kyari stated that the project reflects President Tinubu’s firm commitment to achieving food security and sustainable development.
He noted that agriculture remains a central pillar of the nation’s economy, and emphasised the critical role of wheat production in securing the country’s food supply.
Kyari also highlighted that President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda is anchored on key priorities such as food security, poverty alleviation, and job creation.
In his remarks, the Gbong Gwom Jos, Da Jacob Gyang Buba, pledged the full support of traditional rulers for the wheat cultivation initiative, describing it as essential for societal advancement.
Bulus Dabit, National President of the Mwaghavul Development Association (MDA), expressed gratitude to the ministry for selecting Kombun District as the launch site for the wheat production program in Plateau State.
In addition, youth representatives from various ethnic groups, along with members of the All Farmers Association in the state, pledged their commitment to enhancing agricultural development in the region.
