To boost food security and support local agriculture, a member of the House of Representatives for Badagry Federal Constituency of Lagos State, Hon. Sesi Whingan, distributed 261 bags of fertilizer to farmers across the constituency.
In a recent statement, Whingan’s media team said the distribution exercise held on Sunday at the lawmaker’s office in Badagry, with beneficiaries drawn from the three councils under his jurisdiction – Badagry Local Government, Badagry West Local Council Development Area and Olorunda Local Council Development Area.
Hon. Sedegla Pot-Balogun, an aide to the lawmaker who coordinated the exercise, emphasised Hon. Whingan’s ongoing commitment to support local farmers in boosting agricultural productivity.
He assured attendees of the lawmakers resolve to back efforts that improve food production across the constituency.
The lawmaker’s aide noted that the exercise builds on previous efforts, such as Hon. Whingan’s July initiative which saw 380 bags of fertilizer provided to local farmers.
Pot-Balogun also expressed appreciation to the farmers’ association for their dedication to advancing food security in Badagry and beyond.
“Today’s distribution is yet another step in our broader vision to empower our farmers, provide them with the resources they need, and ultimately strengthen food security within Badagry and the nation,” he said.
Speaking on behalf of the farmers, Alhaji Oyelekan expressed profound gratitude for Hon. Whingan’s support.
His words: “We are truly thankful for our MHR’s proactive approach and unwavering support.
“He has shown us that we have a representative who is genuinely interested in driving development.
“We promise to use these fertilizers effectively and productively. We are proud of you, sir.”
The farmers also commended the lawmaker’s office for its well-coordinated efforts in ensuring the distribution was carried out efficiently and directly to genuine farmers, enabling them to immediately incorporate the fertilizer into their farming practices.
