Bauchi Agricultural Development Programme Trains 200 Women on Fish Farming

by AgroNigeria

In a bid to diversify agricultural practices and empower women, the Bauchi State Agricultural Development Programme (BSADP) has trained over 200 women in fish farming.

The training, organized in collaboration with the Women in Trade and Agriculture Cooperative Society, aimed to equip women with practical techniques to improve fish farming.

According to Mr. Ya’u Muhammad, Programme Manager of BSADP, “This initiative aims at diversifying agricultural practices in response to challenges faced in poultry production.”

He noted that the high prices of day-old chicks, drugs, and feeds have made poultry farming less viable, leading many women to migrate to fish production as a more sustainable option.

Muhammad emphasized the importance of selecting the right fish species, preparing nutritious feed, and maintaining accurate records.

He also stressed the need to combine fish farming with other agricultural practices and to focus on effective processing and marketing of fish products.

Dr. Adamu Fada, a retired Director of Agricultural Technical Services at BSADP, urged participants to apply their knowledge practically and seek assistance from extension agents when faced with challenges.

“The knowledge gained here should be put into practice to achieve tangible results,” he said.
