BUA Foods to Establish Four Wheat Milling Factories in Nigeria

BUA Foods Plc has secured a deal with Turkish milling equipment manufacturer IMAS to construct four new wheat milling factories, each capable of milling up to 3,200 tonnes of wheat daily.

In a statement filed with the Nigerian Exchange (NGX), Adewunmi Desalu, Director of Marketing and Communications at BUA Foods, announced that these new mills will elevate the company’s total milling capacity to 2.5 million metric tonnes annually, representing a nearly 400% increase from its current capacity.

The company emphasized that this expansion will significantly enhance its manufacturing capabilities, allowing for the production of more high-quality flour products.

However, this move is expected to address food security challenges in Nigeria by increasing the availability of wheat flour in the market.

Abdulsamad Rabiu, Chairman of BUA Foods Plc, who signed the agreement on behalf of the company, highlighted that the new factories are a strategic step towards expanding the company’s market share in Nigeria’s flour industry.

“This partnership with IMAS underscores our commitment to enhancing food security in Nigeria. The new mills will not only boost our production capacity but also create additional job opportunities nationwide,” Rabiu stated.

“This investment brings us closer to our goal of capturing a larger share of the Nigerian flour market, offering us the flexibility to meet various flour needs with high-quality products.”

In 2022, BUA Foods operated with an installed milling capacity of 500,000 metric tonnes per annum, utilizing 84% of this capacity.

The planned increase to 2.5 million metric tonnes per annum marks a significant expansion in the company’s production potential.
