Job Overview

The Commercial Director is responsible for driving all revenue streams for the hotel and private events. In collaboration with stakeholders, develops and executes the Revenue and Sales & Marketing plans; manages and trains the Sales and Marketing staff to maximize revenue and profit.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and implementation of strategies to impact all revenue streams, focusing on Rooms and Events to exceed hotel revenue goals and increase market share. Develop Annual Multi-Year Commercial Strategy Planning with property leaders.
  • Create strategic presentations for ownership and internal teams to discuss business decisions, strategic plans, and ROI of initiatives.
  • Collaborate with Commercial Leadership and Brand e-Commerce teams to build and manage B2B marketing, digital marketing, social media, PR, and communication channels, ensuring hotel content is accurate and effective.
  • Work with Commercial Leaders to establish optimal business mix, review revenue forecasts, develop strategies for demand periods, and approve retail and Group pricing strategies.
  • Develop and manage departmental budgets and forecasts.
  • Train and oversee Group, Transient, and Events contractual and legal agreements, ensuring compliance with company policies.
  • Utilize booking platforms effectively, managing costs associated with distribution channels.
  • Recruit, retain, and develop top Sales and Marketing talent, fostering ongoing performance and career development.
  • Build relationships with ownership, CVBs, community groups, influencers, and third-party travel partners.
  • Engage actively with customers across all sales segments and support sales team travel to key markets and tradeshows.
  • Monitor market conditions, analyze competitor activity, and adapt strategies accordingly.
  • Oversee hotel activation and promotional activities across all marketing mediums.
  • Participate in leadership meetings, providing strategic insights across departments.
  • Coordinate efforts across Sales, PR, Digital, E-Commerce, Revenue Management, and F&B to maximize asset profitability and positioning.
  • Review membership strategies, develop sales tracking processes, and implement new go-to-market initiatives.
  • Partner with GM and department heads to develop proactive revenue strategies, ensuring a balanced business mix and pricing approach.
  • Lead the hotel’s revenue management culture, using all available tools to optimize efforts, including rate, arrival, and length of stay strategies.
  • Manage online presence and reputation, including relationships with OTAs and distribution channels.
  • Develop accurate monthly revenue forecasts, conduct ongoing sales training, and analyze marketing analytics.
  • Implement targeted marketing during peak times, optimize brand initiatives, and prepare strategic presentations for ownership and corporate teams.
  • Mentor high-potential talent, develop succession plans, and identify future leaders within the revenue management team.
  • Perform special projects and participate in committees as needed. Occasional travel required.

Qualifications

Education/Formal Training: Four-year degree preferred.

Experience: 5-10 years in Revenue Management; multi-property experience preferred but not required.

Knowledge/Skills:

  • Deep understanding of transient, group, and catering customer segments.
  • Strong personal management, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Expertise in hotel revenue management concepts, processes, and systems.
  • Knowledge of brand strategies and cultures.
  • Advanced revenue management techniques proficiency.
  • Discretion and tact in handling sensitive information.
  • Negotiation, persuasion, and influence skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks.
  • Excellent written communication and mathematical skills, including budgeting and profit/loss analysis.

Physical Demands

Must meet physical requirements, including sitting for extended periods, occasional walking, standing, bending, and lifting. Travel 30-50% to hotel properties.

Environment

Primarily an office setting with prolonged sitting at a computer workstation.
