Job Description

Morningside University is accepting applications for the full time position Grounds/General Maintenance. This position is responsible for the care and operation of all athletic fields, grounds maintenance and campus events. Normal workday will be 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM Monday through Friday and will follow an on-call schedule as needed. This may be adjusted on a week-by-week basis due to campus events and inclement weather needs.

• Responsible for making sure facilities are properly secure and maintained
• Assures that the grounds are properly maintained
• Responsible for weed control; trimming and mowing
• Knowledge of football field, softball field and track layout and the painting of them
• Cleaning of facility bathrooms
• Assists with the preparation for events at the university

• Works with Grounds Manger to assure that all campus grounds are properly maintained
• Mowing; weeding, trimming and tree trimming
• Planting and maintaining flower beds
• Repairs to the irrigation system
• General knowledge in maintaining and cleaning mowers
• Ability to operate chainsaw
• Assist with snow removal as needed
• Assures proper weed control

• Knowledge of methods used in grounds maintenance
• Knowledge of fertilizers and other types of chemicals used in lawn and plant care
• Familiar with the operation of grounds equipment
• Ability to lift/carry heavy items
• Work well with other people
• Able to use general tools and equipment
• Effective communication skills and works well with others
• Ability to instruct and lead student workers
• Possession of a valid State Driver’s license
