To commemorate the University of Jos’ 50th anniversary, the University of Jos Alumni Association (UJAA) has planted 100 different tree species at the Naraguta Campus.
According to UJAA President, Dr. Gad Shamaki, the tree-planting exercise was part of an environmental sustainability initiative aimed at combating climate change and improving the university’s landscape.
He noted that the project was carried out in collaboration with the Change Makers of the Rotary Club, Jos, who provided vital support for its success.
“This effort is deeply symbolic. It reflects the university’s proud heritage and optimistic future,” Shamaki stated.
He expressed gratitude to the Rotary Club and encouraged other organizations and individuals to support similar environmentally conscious initiatives.
Dr. Shamaki further described the planted trees as “seeds of hope” for future generations of the university community and emphasized the project’s role in fostering a culture of environmental responsibility among students and staff.
Speaking on behalf of the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Tanko Ishaya, the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Joash Amupitan, commended both UJAA and the Rotary Club for their contributions.
He highlighted that the trees would enrich the campus environment, promote biodiversity, and serve as practical learning tools for students.
