The Cocoa and Coffee Farmers Alliance Association of Africa has entered into a partnership with the Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria to drive the revival of coffee cultivation in Nigeria and enhance the nation’s cocoa and coffee industries.
The collaboration, sealed through a Memorandum of Understanding under the Nigeria Coffee Revival Initiative, is designed to improve production capacity by equipping farmers with modern farming knowledge, climate resilient practices, better seedlings, and improved post harvest handling techniques.
Speaking on the agreement, the Global President of COCEFAAA, Adeola Adegoke, said the initiative would reposition Nigeria within the global coffee market and create fresh economic opportunities for farmers and rural communities.
According to him, the project goes beyond increasing output, as it is also focused on building a sustainable coffee sector supported by innovation, scientific research, and inclusive farmer development.
Under the arrangement, both organisations plan to establish processing centres, pilot irrigation schemes, demonstration farms, and digital traceability systems aimed at promoting transparency and sustainability within the value chain.
Adegoke explained that the programme aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, especially in the areas of food security, agricultural growth, and economic diversification.
He further disclosed that the alliance and CRIN would work closely with producing states, academic institutions, development organisations, and other stakeholders to ensure effective implementation of the initiative across the country.
