The Katsina State Government has announced the launch of the second phase of the Danja Dam project, a move aimed at expanding irrigation infrastructure to boost agricultural productivity across the region.
Governor Dikko Radda, also serving as Chairman of the North West Governors’ Forum, shared his administration’s vision for agriculture-driven development, underscoring the state’s commitment to harnessing its vast arable land through irrigation farming.
He made the announcement at the unveiling of an empowerment package in Katsina on Sunday, where he reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to agriculture as a cornerstone of food security and economic growth. Also, he emphasized that the Danja Dam’s expansion would place a strong emphasis on irrigation farming, reflecting Katsina’s rich agricultural heritage and the immense potential it holds.
Meanwhile, Isah Migdad, the governor’s media aide, conveyed Radda’s resolve to strengthen agricultural productivity in Danja and its neighboring communities.
“Our administration recognises the agricultural potential of Danja and its surrounding communities,” Migdad quoted the governor as saying. “The second phase of the Danja Dam project will prioritise irrigation development to support our dedicated farming communities and enhance their productivity.”
Radda went on to highlight the broader benefits of irrigation farming, noting that it is essential for food production and contributes to job creation in Katsina.
He expressed confidence that the Danja Dam project’s next phase would address key challenges facing local farmers, equipping them with the resources needed to cultivate year-round and improve their production.
