The Delta State Government has inaugurated a five-member committee tasked with formulating a comprehensive action plan to promote agricultural initiatives among civil servants.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony held on Wednesday in Asaba, the State Head of Service, Dr. Mininim Oseji, highlighted the strategic importance of the committee in driving agricultural participation within the public sector workforce.
“It became necessary to constitute this committee to not only oversee but also encourage civil servants to actively participate in agriculture,” Dr. Oseji stated.
She explained that the committee’s responsibilities include identifying effective strategies to align agricultural programmes with Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s ‘MORE Agenda’—a policy framework focused on economic growth and sustainability.
Dr. Oseji further noted that the committee would take the lead in implementing agriculture-driven projects, tackling potential challenges, and devising solutions to ensure long-term success.
“The committee is also expected to collaborate with relevant stakeholders to harness resources, technical expertise, and institutional support, in addition to monitoring and evaluating the progress of these initiatives,” she added.
The committee is chaired by Mr. Maxwell Ause, Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Head of Service. Other members include Mr. Kingsley Olumukoro, Permanent Secretary at the Directorate of Establishment and Pensions; Mrs. Obianuju Osadebe, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources; Mr. Paul Okpue, an industrial agriculturist and chief facilitator; and Mr. Michael Okocha, Director of Training (Directorate of Establishment and Pensions), who will serve as Secretary.
