Edo Creates Livestock Ministry As Govt Announces Major Restructuring

by AgroNigeria

As part of efforts to enhance administrative efficiency and align governance at the State level with Federal structures, Senator Monday Okpebholo, the Governor of Edo State, has announced the approval of a comprehensive restructuring of the State Ministries including the creation of the Ministry of Livestock Development.

The newly approved list includes ministries covering critical areas such as Agriculture and Food Security, Livestock Development, Communications and Digital Economy, Power, Finance, Public Security and Safety, and the Ministry of Arts, Culture and Creative Economy.

This was made known in a statement released by Umar Musa Ikhilor, Secretary to the State Government, and made available to AgroNigeria on Thursday, in Abuja.

According to the statement, the reform is designed to mirror the structure of the Federal Government and ensure the seamless alignment of the Governor’s SHINE Agenda with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

The statement noted that, “In view of this strategic positioning, the Governor has approved the creation of additional ministries and the revival of some defunct ones, bringing the total number of ministries in Edo State to twenty-eight (28).”

Governor Okpebholo explained that the restructuring aims to improve coordination across critical sectors and strengthen government capacity to deliver effectively on its mandate to the people.

“This reform is not just an administrative exercise but a strategic realignment to ensure that governance at the state level reflects the priorities of our development agenda.

“We are committed to building institutions that deliver value, create opportunities, and ensure that no sector is left behind as we drive sustainable growth and inclusive development,” he said.

He emphasized that the restructuring would also foster synergy among ministries and improve policy implementation across economic, infrastructural, social, and digital development fronts.

“Our objective is to strengthen the link between policy formulation and execution so that the people of Edo State can feel the impact of government in every area — from agriculture to education, from infrastructure to creative industries,” Okpebholo added.

The Governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to good governance, economic transformation, institutional efficiency, and inclusive development, in line with both the SHINE Agenda and the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Federal Government.

“Edo State is on a new path of administrative and developmental renewal,” he stated. “Our focus remains clear — to build a state that works for everyone and sustains prosperity for generations to come.”
