Enugu Farmers Tasked to Increase Food Production as 1,200 Get Free Rice Seeds 

The Enugu State government, in collaboration with Ellah Lakes Plc and Adani SCPZ Food Company, has distributed free rice seeds to over 1,200 farmers in the Adani area.

This initiative aims to boost rice production and support agricultural and economic prosperity in the community.

According to Commissioner for Agriculture and Agro-Industrialisation, Patrick Ubru, “The state has great potential for rice cultivation and production. We are working to empower rice farmers to scale up production and become first-class premium rice producers in the world.”

The partnership between the Enugu State government and Ellah Lakes Plc will provide farmers with essential resources to enhance their agricultural practices and increase their yields. 

An initial 100 farmers received 25kg of high-quality rice seeds (Faro 44) and will participate in a training program on sustainable farming and modern planting methods.

Governor Peter Mbah has a vision to transform the agricultural sector with huge investments to boost food production in the state. 

“This is the only source for us to take our economy from 4.4 billion dollars to 30 billion dollars in 2031,” Ubru said.

Chuka Mordi, CEO of Ellah Lakes Plc, expressed delight in partnering with the Enugu State government to empower local farmers and promote economic prosperity.

 “Together, let us plant the seeds of growth and prosperity in Enugu,” Mordi said.

Beneficiary Boniface Obuka commended the state government and Ellah Lakes Plc for the gesture, which marks the beginning of a partnership to revitalize the agricultural sector in Enugu State.
