The European Union has invested €10.5 million in grant support to resolve the ongoing farmers/herders crises in Taraba and Adamawa States, Nigeria, through the International Organisation for Migration (IOM).
This initiative, known as Contributing to the Mitigation of Conflict Over Natural Resources Between Farmers and Herders Communities in Taraba and Adamawa States, Nigeria (COMITAS), aims to promote peacebuilding and conflict mitigation.
According to Paola Pace, IOM Chief of Mission, “IOM is proud to have facilitated policy dialogues on the National Climate Change Policy of Nigeria, ensuring local voices were represented in shaping climate adaptation priorities”.
She expressed gratitude to the European Union for their support, stating that COMITAS has made significant impacts since 2021, empowering communities, strengthening social cohesion, and improving livelihoods.
Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State praised the project’s success, noting its positive impact on agriculture and harmonious coexistence between farmers and herders.
Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas expressed optimism that more would be achieved in peace restoration.
