Ex Agric Commissioner Urges Govt to Address Critical Shortage of Farmers, Food Processors

by AgroNigeria

Ekiti State’s former Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Prince Adetoyi Olabode, urged federal and state governments to urgently address Nigeria’s critical shortages of farmers and food processors.

Speaking to journalists about the agricultural value chain, he warned that the gap is severely undermining the nation’s food production capacity.

Olabode stressed that bolstering farming and food processing is vital for a stable national food supply.

He criticized the lack of targeted policies and robust support systems at both government levels, which have stifled growth and discouraged participation.

To reverse this, he called for enabling policies, better access to resources, and tangible incentives to draw more Nigerians into agriculture and processing.

“If governments are truly committed, food security can be achieved,” Olabode declared, emphasizing the need for a thriving environment for these players.

In related news, Olabode, founder of Value Ingredients Limited, highlighted recent regulatory approvals from NAFDAC and SON for his company’s processed foods, including Poundo Yam, Fufu Flour, Plantain Flour, Value Ogi, and Garri.
