The Ogun State government has engaged the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development in a bid to find sustainable solutions to the ongoing farmers-herders conflict and enhance livestock development.

The crucial meeting, held in Ibadan, Oyo State capital, aimed to foster peaceful coexistence between farmers and herders while strengthening food security within Ogun State.

Led by Hadi Sani, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Inter-Ethnic Affairs, the Ogun State delegation met with key figures including Dr. Idi Muktar Maiha, Minister of Livestock Development, and Idris Ajibola Ajimobi, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Livestock Development.

During the engagement, Sani addressed the challenges posed by the conflict between farmers and herders, underscoring the importance of finding a comprehensive and lasting resolution. He highlighted the proactive steps taken by the state government, under Governor Dapo Abiodun’s leadership, to establish peacebuilding mechanisms designed to maintain harmony across the state.

“We have set up a peacebuilding committee to address early warning signs and prevent potential conflicts from escalating,” Sani explained. “This initiative has helped Ogun State earn the reputation as one of the most peaceful states in Nigeria in terms of farmers-herders relations.”

Sani also emphasized that the Minister of Livestock Development shared the vision for resolving the conflict while working together to implement solutions and improve livestock development.

The collaborative discussions are set to further enhance efforts toward maintaining peace and improving food security, aligning with the state’s developmental objectives.
