The Federal University of Agriculture, Bassambiri, is set to commence operations as renovation work at the major federal project in Nembe Local Government Area will soon be completed.
This development was announced following a visit by the university’s principal officers, led by Pro-Chancellor Senator John Brambaifa and Vice Chancellor Professor Reginald Keremah.
The governing council and principal officers had earlier met with Bayelsa State Governor Senator Douye Diri to discuss the university’s take-off. The Vice Chancellor disclosed that key issues, particularly regarding the university’s Bassambiri site, were addressed and resolved during the meeting.
Governor Diri expressed his administration’s full support for the timely establishment of the institution. He noted that the institution is highly important to the development of the Bayelsa State and that it has the potential to drive agricultural innovation and economic growth.
In addition to the meeting with the governor, the governing council held its inaugural meeting to address immediate challenges such as infrastructure, staffing, and community engagement.
Pro-Chancellor Brambaifa assured that the council is committed to ensuring a smooth and effective take-off for the university. “We are confident that with the commitment of the council and the support of all stakeholders, the Federal University of Agriculture, Bassambiri, will soon become a centre of excellence in agricultural education and research.
“We are moving swiftly to ensure that the take-off happens seamlessly and that the institution becomes fully operational in the shortest possible time,” he stated.
The week ended with a tour of the university’s proposed take-off site in Bassambiri, Nembe.
The delegation, led by Brambaifa, was received by the chiefs, elders, and people of Bassambiri. During the visit, the community expressed their commitment to working hand-in-hand with the governing council to ensure the university’s success.
One of the chiefs assured the council of Bassambiri’s full cooperation, stating, “We are committed to seeing the Federal University of Agriculture, Bassambiri, thrive. The community will provide all necessary support to make sure this project succeeds.”
