Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele has reaffirmed the current administration’s commitment to addressing challenges in Nigeria’s agriculture sector.
Speaking during a farmer empowerment initiative in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, Bamidele emphasized that the federal government, under Tinubu’s leadership, has prioritized agriculture as a key strategy in its “Renewed Hope” agenda aimed at eradicating poverty and reducing the high cost of food across the nation.
The Senate Leader, who was represented at the event by APC stalwart Remi Oguntuase, revealed that tangible investments have been made over the past two years to improve food production capabilities, ensure affordability of food items, and uplift rural livelihoods.
A highlight of the empowerment programme was the distribution of essential agricultural machinery and inputs to farmers. Among the items handed over were a large-capacity tractor, ten modern power tillers, and multiple cartons of liquid fertilizers.
Bamidele noted that supporting the agricultural value chain aligns closely with the vision of both the Tinubu-led federal government and the Ekiti State administration under Governor Biodun Oyebanji.
“This initiative is part of a broader drive to enhance food production, banish hunger, and enhance self-sufficiency among our people,” he said.
He also stressed the need for innovation in farming methods, urging farmers to move away from outdated practices and embrace modern technology to boost efficiency and productivity. “We cannot continue with traditional systems that no longer serve the demands of our growing population,” he stated.
The lawmaker reaffirmed his dedication to farmer welfare, not only within his senatorial district but throughout the state, pledging continuous support and collaboration with stakeholders at all levels.
Ekiti State Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Ebenezer Boluwade, who was also present at the event, lauded the initiative as a step in the right direction.
He advised beneficiaries to make effective and responsible use of the equipment to achieve the intended outcomes of increased food supply and long-term sustainability.
Boluwade also reminded the farmers of the importance of maintaining the tools properly to ensure durability and maximum benefit. He urged them to adopt modern farming practices and support the state’s goal of achieving food self-reliance.
