The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Livestock, Idris Ajimobi, has announced that the Federal Government is taking swift action to address challenges facing Nigeria’s livestock sector.
Speaking at the weekend, Ajimobi revealed that the 2024 budget has earmarked ₦13 billion for the sector, with additional funding secured through partnerships with international development agencies.
He explained that the government is not waiting to act and has already commenced pilot projects as part of its livestock development plan.
“The aim is to complete the pilot project and then scale up to other states,” Ajimobi said. “This does not mean we will pause progress elsewhere, groundwork and critical research are ongoing across the country.”
Ajimobi emphasized that the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is committed to tackling the current food security crisis by prioritizing the livestock value chain.
“Livestock is a key driver of food security, and this administration is determined to make Nigeria a food-secure nation,” he added.
