FG to Partner with Groundnut Farmers Nationwide

by AgroNigeria

The Federal Government has expressed renewed readiness to partner with groundnut farmers across the country as part of efforts to boost agricultural output, create jobs, and strengthen the national economy.

This position was made known in Abuja when the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, received leaders of the Afrigroundnut Farmers Association of Nigeria.

The delegation was led by its president, Abdullahi Muhammad Isa.

Represented at the meeting by the Permanent Secretary in the General Services Office, Dr Ibrahim Abubakar Kana, the SGF highlighted the long standing importance of groundnut farming to Nigeria’s economic history and its future potential.

He noted that the crop once played a central role in driving economic growth, recalling the period when the famous groundnut pyramids in the North contributed significantly to national revenue.

He stated that revitalising the sector could once again position it as a major contributor to economic expansion, while also improving livelihoods and ensuring food security.

Akume also acknowledged the association’s support for the current administration and encouraged its members to remain organised nationwide. He urged them to continue backing government policies aimed at transforming agriculture into a key pillar of economic development.

In his remarks, Abdullahi Muhammad Isa assured government officials that the association is committed to operating within a structured and sustainable system. He explained that support such as improved seedlings, fertilisers, and modern equipment would directly increase yields and enhance farmers’ incomes.

He emphasised that adopting mechanised farming methods is essential for achieving large scale production and improving Nigeria’s competitiveness in international markets.

Isa further pledged the association’s continued support for the ruling party and the present administration, noting that its members across the country would be mobilised ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to him, the association remains focused on aligning with initiatives that promote growth in the agricultural sector and contribute to overall national development.
