The Federal Government has initiated discussions with the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) to strengthen food security and boost agricultural productivity across Nigeria.
During a high-level meeting in Abuja, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, welcomed the newly appointed WFP Regional Director, Mr. Chris Nikoi, and his delegation. The talks are part of ongoing efforts by the President Bola Tinubu-led administration to drive agricultural growth under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
The discussions, which included the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, focused on identifying potential areas for collaboration.
According to a statement from the Director of Information and Public Relations, Ministry of Finance, Mohammed Manga, the WFP delegation expressed their willingness to support Nigeria’s agricultural sector through various initiatives.
Key proposals include the delivery of vital farming inputs, such as fertilizers and seeds, aimed at increasing crop yields and securing the nation’s food supply.
Mr. Edun praised the WFP’s commitment and highlighted the importance of these potential collaborations in advancing Nigeria’s agricultural reforms.
He assured the WFP delegation that the Ministry of Finance is prepared to take the necessary steps to move these initiatives forward.
