by AgroNigeria

The Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN), through the Federal Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation, has issued Invitations for Bids (IFBs) for the rehabilitation of strategic animal watering ponds under the Programme for Integrated Development and Adaptation to Climate Change in the Niger Basin (PIDACC).

The intervention is designed to strengthen climate resilience, reduce farmer–herder tensions, and support rural livelihoods, particularly in communities facing shrinking water sources due to climate change—such as Mararaban Bare in Adamawa State, where competition over limited water has intensified.

Programme Overview

-Programme: PIDACC – Niger Basin

-Objective: Restore and upgrade livestock watering infrastructure to improve access to water, enhance pastoral productivity, and mitigate conflict linked to water scarcity.

-Development Partner: African Development Bank (AfDB)

Institutional Roles

-Lead Implementing Ministry: Federal Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation

-Sectoral Coordination & Technical Input: Federal Ministry of Livestock Development

-Financing Partner: African Development Bank

Active Invitations for Bids (IFBs)

-Haini–Bodinga (Sokoto State): Rehabilitation of degraded livestock watering ponds.

Expected Impact

-Enhanced climate adaptation for pastoral and farming communities

-Strengthened peace and coexistence in vulnerable rural areas

Interested and eligible contractors are advised to obtain detailed bidding documents from the Federal Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation in line with the IFB guidelines.

The Federal Government reaffirms its commitment to climate-smart water infrastructure, livestock development, and sustainable peace-building across Nigeria’s rural communities.

For further updates, stakeholders are encouraged to monitor official FGN and Ministry communication channels.
