President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved hundreds of billions of naira for the expansion of 12 River Basin projects across Nigeria, aiming to tackle hunger, enhance food security, and boost agricultural development nationwide.
The Director of Finance, Hadejia Jama’are River Basin, Musa Illiyasu Kwankwaso, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday in Kano.
He emphasised Tinubu’s unwavering commitment to Northern Nigeria’s development through agriculture.
According to Kwankwaso, the expansion of the River Basins will significantly increase food production, mitigate hunger, and strengthen Nigeria’s agricultural output.
He commended the Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Appropriation, Hon. Abubakar Kabir Abubakar Bichi, for ensuring the budget for the revitalization of River Basin projects was approved.
He also noted that Bichi’s dedication to the project aligns with President Tinubu’s vision, adding that both leaders remain committed to national development ahead of the 2027 elections.
Kwankwaso further highlighted the administration’s broader infrastructure agenda, citing the N150 billion allocated in the 2025 appropriation bill for the construction of a railway line in Kano.
He described the project as a transformative initiative that will enhance transportation, facilitate trade, and drive economic growth in the region.
He acknowledged the government’s investment in the revitalization of over 12 dams for irrigation farming, stating that these efforts will strengthen food security and make Nigeria self-sufficient in food production.
“We extend our heartfelt gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his visionary leadership.
“His commitment to food security, infrastructure, and economic recovery is evident in the 2025 budget,” Kwankwaso stated.
He also praised Hon. Bichi for his role in bringing developmental projects to Kano and other regions, expressing optimism about the lasting impact of these initiatives on the people and the nation’s economy.
