The Federal University Gashua (FUGA) has achieved a major milestone in agricultural development, as the Department of Animal Science under the Faculty of Agriculture successfully commissioned a state-of-the-art incubator.
This development was confirmed in a press statement by the Head of Information and Protocol at FUGA, Mallam Asamu Saleh, who described the new facility as “a new chapter for the department,” significantly boosting its ability to deliver hands-on training, cutting-edge research, and increased agricultural productivity.
According to the statement, the incubator is already operational, with staff working diligently to hatch chicks — a practical outcome of the university’s drive for excellence.
“This development underscores the university’s unwavering commitment to advancing agricultural science, equipping students with practical knowledge, and contributing meaningfully to national food security,” Saleh noted.
He further praised the visionary leadership of the Vice Chancellor, Professor Maimuna Waziri, whose strategic approach is “positioning FUGA as a centre of academic excellence and innovation in agriculture.”
Commenting on the development, Dr. Lawan Adamu, Head of the Department of Animal Science, revealed that the incubator was originally procured under the tenure of former Vice Chancellor, Professor Andrew Haruna, as part of efforts toward departmental accreditation.
However, it remained idle until Professor Waziri assumed office and prioritized its deployment, driven by what Dr. Adamu described as “her vision to ensure students gain practical experience, especially at a time when job opportunities for graduates are increasingly scarce.”
