The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), through its Institute of Food Security, Environmental Resources and Agricultural Research (IFSERAR), has joined forces with the African Climate Research for Development (AFCR4D) to organize the first International Conference on Climate-Smart Agriculture.
The conference seeks to drive meaningful dialogue on sustainable food systems, agricultural innovation, and climate resilience, particularly in developing countries.
In a statement issued by the Director of IFSERAR, Professor Olusegun Idowu, the event will take place from December 8 to 12, 2025, with sessions starting daily at 10:00 a.m. on the FUNAAB main campus in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
The theme for the conference is “Advancing Climate-Smart Innovation for a Resilient and Productive Agriculture in the Third World.”
According to the memo, the Vice-Chancellor of FUNAAB, Professor Babatunde Kehinde, will serve as the Chief Host of the five-day event, which is expected to draw policy experts, researchers, development agencies, and agricultural professionals from across Africa and beyond.
The conference will feature a lineup of distinguished speakers, including Professor Demola Braimoh, Professor Charles Anosike, Professor Olusegun Osinowo, Dr. Kashifu Abdullahi, and Dr. Adetunji Oredipe, among others.
These thought leaders are expected to provide fresh perspectives on climate-smart agricultural practices, research innovations, and policy frameworks aimed at promoting resilience and productivity in agriculture.
Professor Idowu highlighted that the gathering would provide a strategic platform for learning and collaboration, focusing on how science, technology, and indigenous knowledge can be harmonized to enhance productivity and guarantee food security across developing nations.
The event will also feature research paper presentations, interactive panel sessions, technical workshops, and exhibitions of innovative technologies and sustainable farming solutions. Participants will have the opportunity to network, share experiences, and explore collaborative projects that can inform future policies.
At its core, the conference aims to strengthen cross-disciplinary collaboration and help nations in the Global South develop actionable responses to climate challenges while maintaining food and economic stability. It also seeks to equip researchers and stakeholders with practical tools and frameworks that advance sustainability and rural development.
FUNAAB, widely recognized for its leadership in agricultural research, food security, and environmental management, continues to play a pivotal role in promoting sustainability and innovation in agriculture. Hosting this international event further reinforces its status as a hub of excellence in agricultural advancement across Africa.
The partnership with AFCR4D is expected to amplify the conference’s impact, as the organization has been instrumental in building research capacity and fostering scientific cooperation across the continent.
Organizers are calling on students, researchers, policymakers, and practitioners in the agricultural and environmental sectors to register early and participate fully. The conference is positioned to deliver practical insights and long-term partnerships that will help shape the future of climate-smart agriculture in Africa and other developing regions.
