Farmers across Gombe State have started receiving fertiliser support as part of this year’s wet season farming programme.
The state government has rolled out the distribution of the subsidised fertiliser across all 114 wards, aiming to make agricultural inputs more accessible to farmers in rural areas.
This effort follows a recent directive from Governor Muhammadu Yahaya, who had earlier flagged off the 2025 farming season.
The initiative is designed to reach farmers directly at the grassroots, reducing their burden of transportation and improving access to essential resources.
The Commissioner for Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Cooperatives, Dr Barnabas Malle, confirmed over the weekend that local government areas have begun receiving their allocations.
He noted that the inputs are being delivered directly to farmers at the ward level to ensure they are not lost along the distribution chain.
Dr Malle also highlighted the quality of the fertiliser being distributed, saying it meets high national standards and is expected to help improve crop yields across the state.
He encouraged farmers to apply the fertiliser responsibly and remain alert to weather updates to safeguard their crops.
The current distribution follows the launch of 10,000 metric tons of fertiliser for sale at reduced rates.
The supply, equivalent to 200,000 bags, is part of the state’s plan to strengthen food production and support rural communities.
