Gombe State has secured a place among only three Nigerian states selected to participate in the World Livestock Summit, Sommet D’élevage, in Clermont-Ferrand, France, a recognition of its bold livestock reforms and agribusiness investments.
The endorsement, conveyed through the National Coordination Office of the World Bank-supported Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support (L-PRES) Project, followed an assessment that ranked Gombe as one of the country’s top-performing states in livestock sector transformation.
In an official communication, the National Project Coordinator, Malam Sanusi Abubakar, commended Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya’s leadership and the functionality of Gombe’s State Steering and Technical Committees, describing the state as a model for livestock reform.
The summit, regarded as Europe’s largest livestock gathering, will bring together global players in livestock production, trade, and innovation, with emphasis on sustainability and new technologies for strengthening value chains.
Gombe’s participation is expected to open fresh opportunities for investment and partnerships, particularly as the state advances its ambitious Agro-Livestock Development Zone project.
The initiative includes an ultramodern abattoir, international livestock market, tannery, and leather factory, positioning Gombe as a rising livestock hub for Nigeria and West Africa.
However, by engaging global investors and adopting international best practices, the state aims to further boost livestock productivity, resilience, and economic growth.
