by AgroNigeria

In a bid to enhance agricultural productivity, Governor of Katsina State, Malam Dikko Umar Radda  has launched the distribution of 20,000 metric tons of fertilizer to support the upcoming 2025 wet season farming in the region.

The ceremony, which took place in Kusada Local Government Area, marked the commencement of an initiative designed to provide crucial agricultural input to local farmers at an affordable rate.

Each bag of fertilizer will be sold at a subsidized price of N20,000, an effort by the state government to alleviate the challenges faced by farmers and ensure improved agricultural output.

Governor Radda emphasized that the fertilizer distribution is part of the state’s commitment to boosting farming productivity, which will, in turn, contribute to improving the livelihoods of farmers in the state.

He noted that this would strengthen the agricultural sector, enhance food security, and support the state’s economic development.

Meanwhile, the government of Yobe State has announced plans to distribute agricultural inputs and equipment worth over N17 billion to 5,340 farmers as part of its 2025 agricultural empowerment program.

The announcement was made during the 2025 Agricultural Show and Exhibition held in Damaturu. This event was organized by the Yobe State Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources in collaboration with the Agro Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACRESAL) project.

Governor Mai Mala Buni, who was represented by Alhaji Ali Mustapha Goniri, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, explained that the distribution of these agricultural resources will be free of charge to both male and female farmers.

He highlighted that the program is designed not only to stimulate food production but also to generate employment and strengthen food security in the state.

The inputs to be distributed as part of the initiative include tractors, improved certified seeds, solar-powered water pumps, fertilizers, and agrochemicals.

These resources will support both wet and dry season farming, ensuring that farmers in the state have the tools they need to succeed throughout the year.

Alhaji Goniri further assured that the initiative would be launched soon, with a focus on ensuring that the benefits of the program reach deserving farmers and significantly contribute to the agricultural value chain.

The Yobe State Coordinator of the ACRESAL project, Shehu Alhaji Muhammed, also shared that the project had previously allocated $2.775 million to 111 communities through its Climate-Smart Agriculture/Community Revolving Fund Programme, highlighting the government’s commitment to promoting climate-resilient agricultural practices.
